• Rex Allen Days roars back for 75th year after embezzlement arrest rocked Willcox (kold.com) — Rex Allen Days is back in full force in Willcox this weekend, celebrating its 75th year thanks to more than $80,000 in community donations after an alleged embezzlement rocked the festival board. Residents can enjoy an expanded parade, rodeo, carnival, gun show, live music, and even goat roping, while organizers say new financial safeguards are in place to protect this beloved hometown tradition.
   

• Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative and the 2026 Monsoon (allhitskzmk.com) — A powerful monsoon storm near Willcox knocked down about 60 utility poles this summer, forcing Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative crews to rebuild major parts of the local grid over four days in difficult, flooded conditions. Cooperative leaders say the 2026 season showed how Willcox and Cochise County communities pulled together, and how ongoing system upgrades aim to make future outages shorter and less severe.
   

• Arizona is one step closer to getting its fourth national park (azluminaria.org) — Willcox stands to gain new tourism and economic activity as Chiricahua National Monument moves within one presidential signature of becoming Arizona’s fourth national park. Local leaders, including Mayor Greg Hancock, are in Washington pushing for the change, which could boost visitor spending in gateway communities and spotlight southeastern Arizona’s unique “Wonderland of Rocks.”
