Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. On Saturday, the United Services Organization of Arizona (USO) held its first-ever Easter egg hunt for local military families at Yuma's West Wetlands Park. The event drew over 170 families, who brought their little ones to hunt for hidden eggs and turn them in for prizes. According to Stephanie Stech, USO Arizona operations and program manager, the event was "well-received" by the families. "It's absolutely exciting and so much fun," Stech told KYMA. "We've definitely had a great time putting it on." (KYMA)
  2. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office reported a fatal two-vehicle collision that took place on Saturday, Apr. 16, in the 2900 block of W. 1st Street. The driver of a silver Lexus ES330, identified as 43-year-old Maria Villa of Yuma, was reportedly driving westbound on W. 1st when she crossed over into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons and collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Villa was pronounced dead on the scene. The incident remains under investigation, although officials said alcohol did not appear to be a factor. (Yuma County Sheriff's Office)
  3. On Saturday, Apr. 30, the Yuma Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will be hosting a drop-off event for all unused prescription drugs. Anyone in the community can bring pills for drop-off disposal to the Yuma Police Department, 1500 S. 1st Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No identification will be requested and there is no fee for pill disposal. This drop-off event is designed to help Yuma residents safely and properly dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted medications that could potentially pose health and safety hazards in the home.
