Leaders say the project will strengthen Yuma County's healthcare workforce, offering pathways from dual-credit classes to bachelor's degrees in high-demand medical fields close to home.
   

2. Some Yuma residents concerned over high water bills (kyma.com) — Yuma and Yuma County residents in areas like Tierra Mesa Estates are facing water bills that have reportedly jumped from around $40–$50 to nearly $400 after Cactus State's rate hike of roughly 300%. Local leaders, including Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls and state officials, are questioning the increase and potential uranium treatment costs, with the Arizona Attorney General signaling willingness to review the situation.
   

3. Deadly crash at Yuma intersection draws renewed concerns over visibility (kyma.com) — A deadly crash at Frontage Road and Avenue 10E in Yuma's Foothills area is renewing concerns about poor visibility from overgrown brush and trees near the intersection. Yuma Police say this is the second fatal crash there in recent years and urge residents to report hazards through the city's ClickFix app, while the victim's family seeks help with funeral costs.
   

4. Filmmaker Luis Valle To Screen Anza 250 Documentary in Yuma (yumasun.com) — Yuma residents can catch a free screening of "Anza 250: A Documentary" at the Yuma Main Library on Monday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m., followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Luis Valle. Hosted with the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, the event explores the historic Anza Expedition and its deep ties to Yuma's early history and cultural change.
   

5. Garvey Blackwell Selected as the 2026 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship Recipient (ala.org) — Yuma resident Garvey Blackwell has been named the 2026 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship recipient by the American Library Association, earning $3,000 toward a master's in library and information science. With experience from public libraries to the Library of Congress, Blackwell aims to expand digital access and community-focused library services while studying at Indiana University–Indianapolis.
