Local leaders, including Mayor Doug Nicholls, argue Yuma's agriculture must not shoulder an unfair burden as they coordinate with other counties and refine their legal strategy.
2. YCSO seeks missing 25-year-old woman (yumasun.com) — Local deputies are asking Yuma residents to help find 25-year-old Sydnie Nicole Marfione, who was last known to be traveling through Yuma on July 11 and may still be in the area. Anyone who's seen someone matching her description is urged to call the Yuma County Sheriff's Office or 78-CRIME to share tips, even anonymously.
3. One Seriously Injured in Yuma Three-Vehicle Collision on E. Airport Loop (pacificattorneygroup.com) — A three-vehicle crash on E. Airport Loop in Yuma late Friday morning left the Honda Civic driver with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and another driver with minor injuries. Deputies say a westbound Chevrolet Silverado crossed into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a Ram 2500 before hitting the Civic head-on, and they're asking witnesses to contact the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
4. Submit Applications for Local News Initiative Grants (Arizona) (fundsforngos.org) — News outlets based in Yuma County can now apply for Local News Initiative grants ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 over two years to strengthen their coverage and sustainability. Eligible Southern Arizona organizations must follow journalism ethics, serve local communities, and outline clear plans for audience engagement and long-term funding before the October 16 deadline.
5. You're From Where? Featuring Eugene Edwards (kpbs.org) — Guitarist Eugene Edwards reflects on growing up in Yuma, describing how the desert town's isolation pushed him to practice guitar obsessively and eventually tour the world with major artists. He recalls Yuma High School, local bar bands, and even returning recently for a choir director's memorial, emphasizing how his hometown shaped both his music and outlook.
