The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Good morning, neighbors! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with today's issue of the Yuma Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 85 Low: 57.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. Late Thursday night, two suspects broke into the AutoZone store near Magnolia Ave. and 8th St., according to the Yuma Police Department. Officers responded to the AutoZone burglary around 11 p.m. where a man broke a window and set off an alarm. The suspect was seen leaving the store with several boxes before entering a Ford Explorer. Officers stopped the vehicle on W. 7th Street when the suspect escaped on foot. Both the driver and passenger were captured and arrested. (KYMA)
  2. If you are looking for a job over the summer, the City of Yuma is hiring lifeguards to work this summer's aquatic season, offering bonuses of up to $300. If you are an already certified lifeguard, you are eligible to receive a signing bonus. If you need your certification, you may receive training fee reimbursement in addition to the signing bonus. For those needing certification, the City offers the Life Guarding Today training course in two sessions: Apr. 30 through May 8, and May 14-22. (City of Yuma)
  3. On Thursday (Apr. 21), the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that the state's voters do not have the right to reject a massive income tax cut approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature and Gov. Doug Ducey last year. This decision means a tax cut that mainly benefits the wealthy is in effect that will hit nearly $2 billion when it is fully in place. (KSTP)
