🌱 AzCA Golf Tournament Returns + 2 AZ Lawmakers Face Ethics Complaint

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Happy Wednesday, Yuma! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Warm with plenty of sun. High: 94 Low: 61.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. Arizona's Children Association is kicking off its 23 Annual John Boemer Golf Tournament after a two-year hiatus. Locals can join AzCA on May 7 at the Yuma Golf Country Club on 3150 S Fortuna Ave where proceeds will benefit the association's programs and services that aid Yuma families. The event celebrates the life of John Boemer, a former Arizona's Children Association Board Member, who began the annual golf tournament to collect donations for local children. (KYMA)
  2. Two Arizona lawmakers are facing an ethics complaint that alleges they used their office to get corporations to provide financial support for the nonprofit groups that hired them as a consultant. State Rep. Robert Meza, a Democrat from Phoenix, has been named in the complaint filed by Phoenix-area businessman Phillip Potter. The complaint also charges that Meza was helped by a board at the nonprofit that included a lobbyist and, at one time, a fellow lawmaker, Sen. Lisa Otondo, a Democrat from Yuma. Democrats on the committee have argued there was no evidence of wrongdoing. (AZPM)
  3. In closed-door meetings last week with the Biden administration, Doug Nicholls, mayor of Yuma, Arizona, asked to halt all Border Patrol releases of migrants in cities and towns that have populations of less than 1 million. If approved, the move would halt nearly all releases along the border and instead force the federal government to transport migrants to larger cities such as Houston and San Antonio in Texas and Phoenix in Arizona.
