Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:
- Yuma residents are reportedly concerned about local border wall gaps that they say will lead to "a flood of illegal immigrants." Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls described Border Patrol officers as "overworked" and "stressed" as they try to keep up with migrants crossing through the three holes in the Yuma border wall, which total seven miles. "It's very taxing for a community that's built for 200,000 to have this many people show up at your doorstep in need," Yuma farmer Cory Mellon told Fox. (Fox News)
- As part of its goal to have its operations be "100 percent renewable energy efficient," Amazon announced plans to expand its solar footprint right here in Yuma. Yuma County was one of 37 nationwide locations chosen for Amazon's renewable energy projects. The e-commerce giant anticipates the project will be completed in 2025, five years ahead of schedule. - This week, Arizona Western College unveiled its newly-expanded library, which was funded by a $400,000 grant to enhance student learning. The 2,000-square-foot expansion has allowed for new technologies and a new classroom for students to use. According to AWC, the library is open to the public and offers "plenty of resources for locals in our community." (KYMA)
