- On Saturday, Mar. 19, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Yuma County held its 29th annual recognition banquet to honor the volunteers who help serve the vulnerable children in the local community. This year's event included awards like CASA of the Year, Judges' Award, and Rookie of the Year, as well as the Roadrunner, which went to the volunteer who traveled the most miles for CASA work. - Last week, the Arizona House Energy and Environment Committee passed the "Darcy's Last Call Bill," which would require farmers and ranchers to notify their local fire departments about controlled burns. The bill was created in honor of Yuma County firefighter Captain Darcy Stalling, who died in a car crash on his way to a fire call that turned out to be a controlled burn. The bill stipulates that any person conducting the controlled burn must notify the fire department at least 48 hours prior with the date, time, location, and contact information for the person responsible for the controlled burn. - Amberly's Place Crisis Prevention Center participated in a Community Share Project with students and teachers from Fourth Avenue Jr. High this weekend. The students, who are part of the CTE program at FAJH, worked with their teacher, Dr. Cullison, to build a kitchen table and chairs for a family in need. The project was funded by a grant from Yuma-Arizona Business and Education Coalition. (Amberly's Place)
