Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:
- With election season coming up, Arizona candidates are visiting cities across the state, including Yuma. Recently, Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon visited Yuma to learn about issues affecting the local community. Salmon is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Arizona from 1995 to 2001 and again from 2013 until 2017. Salmon has visited Yuma seven times and toured the Southern Border to learn about agriculture and other industries in Yuma. (KYMA)
- On Friday, a mobile home park in Yuma brought in police activity. At least six Yuma Police vehicles were reported at the scene as well as one vehicle from the Yuma Fire Department. Police arrived at the park after 1:00 p.m. and one person was taken into custody. Any injuries or official arrests have not yet been reported. (KYMA)
- Recent footage of Marines training in Yuma has been mischaracterized as showing Russians in Ukraine. The post caught recent attention on social media but was flagged as part of Facebook's efforts to combat false news and misinformation. The video, falsely identified as being taken in Ukraine, is of a Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona. The simulated village is made out of shipping containers that the Marines call "Yodaville" and it's a training range where Marines can practice air support exercises. (Politifact)
