Here are the top stories today in Yuma:
- On Feb. 28, U.S. Marine Corps pilot Maj. Corey Jones was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroics after a mid-air collision during a training exercise. On the day of the incident, Jones was piloting a Super Hercules during an air-to-air refueling mission when an F-35B struck his aircraft. The KC-130J crew was refueling aircraft that were taking part in training at The Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course in Yuma. (Task & Purpose)
- In 2021, the Yuma Fire Department responded to over 200 overdose-related calls and experts believe numbers could be very similar this year as well. It's not unusual for the fire department to get calls about local overdoses. According to the YFD, they administered around 650 milligrams of Narcan to local patients to try and save their lives. Now, YFD is encouraging locals to learn compression CPR to help save more lives. (KYMA)
- Yuma Catholic has parted ways with Curt Foppe, the former head coach of the Shamrocks, after discovering he is facing multiple AIA violations. Foppe was the head coach of the past 15 years, and Judd Thrower has been named the Interim Head Baseball Coach for the remainder of the season. (KYMA)
