The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Happy Thursday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Hot; breezy in the morning. High: 95 Low: 60.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. A Yuma man accused of killing his own brother by putting him in a chokehold may be getting a plea deal, according to the State of Arizona. Adolfo Haros-Kempton is currently in custody for the alleged murder with no trial date set at this time. The state says it hopes to "come to an agreement before it gets to that point." (KYMA)
  2. In recognition of Fair Housing Month, the City of Yuma, Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG), Yuma County, and other partners will be hosting the second Fair Housing Virtual Symposium on Apr. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This community-wide event aims to provide tools and resources to tenants, landlords, housing providers, social service agencies, real estate agents, case managers, and the general public. The Symposium will be held during the same time slot on May 12 in Spanish. You can register through WACOG's website or tune in live day-of at www.wacog.az/live.(City of Yuma)
  3. Recently-released FBI data shows that robbery cases in Yuma rose rapidly in 2020, despite an overall decline across the United States. The reported number of robberies in Yuma went from 41 in 2019 to 54 in 2020 — a 32 percent increase that represents 24.9 incidents for every 100,000 people in the city. However, the Yuma metro area's robbery rate is well below the national rate of 73.9 robberies per 100,000 people. (The Center Square)
