🌱 Senate Hopeful Mick McGuire Visits Yuma + 7th District Candidates

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Happy Thursday, Yuma! Here's everything you need to know going on today.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 83 Low: 54.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. U.S. Senate candidate Mick McGuire visited Yuma again yesterday to host a campaign fundraiser. McGuire, who has nearly four decades of political experience, spoke with local leaders about issues affecting the Yuma area, including immigration, water issues, and agriculture. He is one of eight other candidates competing in the Republican primaries, which will be decided on Aug. 2, 2022. (KYMA)
  2. Meet the candidates who are running to represent Arizona's newly-formed 7th Congressional District. Incumbent Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D), who took office in 2003, is seeking re-election. First-time political candidate Luis Pozzolo (R) is aiming to defeat Grijalva by focusing on law enforcement, small businesses, and immigration. The 7th District replaces the 3rd Congressional District in the southwestern part of the state and covers parts of six Arizona counties, including Yuma. (AZ Central)
  3. Antonio Payne, the 26-year-old Yuma man who was arrested last week in connection with a January 2022 home break-in and assault, has been formally charged by the court with one count of sexual assault and two counts of second-degree burglary. He made his first court appearance on Friday, where a $200,000 cash-only bond was set, and appeared again on Tuesday to be charged. According to court reports, Payne allegedly committed these acts against a female victim in her home in the presence of her child. (KYMA)
