Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:
- Democratic U.S. Senator and chair of the U.S. Senate subcommittee on border management, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, criticized the Biden administration for not taking steps to stem the flow of migrants from the border. "The current flow is unsustainable," said Sinema after a roundtable discussion with those on the frontlines of the crisis. Officials from immigration and customs enforcement, border patrol, non-governmental and humanitarian aid organizations, as well as leaders from Sky Harbor International Airport and Greyhound Lines were among those in attendance. - Lettuce prices have spiked due to fluctuating Arizona temperatures impacting the Yuma, AZ markets, says Mark McBride of Coastline Family Farms in Salinas, CA. The hotter than normal and cooler than normal weather conditions have caused smaller-sized iceberg and romaine lettuce which has increased the number of packages per carton, driving the price as high as $20 per pack. Fortunately, the quality has not been affected, McBride added. (Horti Daily)
