Hey, Yuma! Let's get you all caught up to start this day off on an informed note. Here's everything worth knowing around Yuma today.

First, today's weather:

Hot with plenty of sunshine. High: 100 Low: 65.

Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. Two twin brothers have been arrested in connection to a shooting in Yuma that killed a minor. The Yuma Police Department responded to the neighborhood of E. 26th Place near Mary Avenue and Olivia Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. At the scene, officers found an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old with gunshot wounds. The 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead while the 18-year-old was transported to a hospital and is being treated with non-life-threatening injuries. (KYMA)
  2. As thousands of people travel from distant countries to seek new lives in the U.S., border town residents fear the influx of migrants is unsustainable. Mayor Douglas Nicholls of Yuma says his town is already overwhelmed and fears the situation will get worse if Title 42 is allowed to expire later this month. The policy implemented during the Trump administration allowed border agents to turn away migrants before their asylum hearing for public health reasons. The Biden administration will allow the rule to expire later this month. (News Nation Now)
  3. Seven graduating University of Arizona seniors, including Lily Yu Lin McNair of Yuma, are scheduled to be honored during Commencement for their extraordinary accomplishments in the classroom and beyond. This year's seven student award winners were nominated and selected by faculty and peers based on their determination, notable achievements, and positive contributions to their families and communities. McNair will be receiving the Robie Gold Medal, which honors those who "demonstrate personal integrity, initiative, cooperation, enthusiasm, willingness to give more than required, and a love of God and country." The spring Commencement ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Arizona Stadium. (University of Arizona)
