First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 85 Low: 55.

Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  • On Thursday, around 1:15 p.m., an Arizona Department of Public Safety detective was fueling up his vehicle when he recognized a man, Joshua Duggan, with a burglary warrant nearby. The detective attempted to arrest him when the suspect took off running into a residential area. The suspect then jumped over a brick wall and hid inside a storage unit of a home. At around 2:02 p.m., both AZDPS detectives and YPD officers found the suspect and took him into custody. (KYMA)
  • Since December, Yuma border officials have reported there have been 1,000 illegal crossings every day into the U.S. on average. Now, the CDC is ending the pandemic border rule known as Title 42, which kept asylum seekers in Mexico for fear they would bring COVID with them if they were allowed to enter the U.S. Governor Ducey fears once Title 42 ends on May 23, those numbers will jump tenfold. Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly are also concerned, stating that ending Title 42 without a plan puts Arizona communities and migrants at risk. (ABC15)
  • Local youth educators and mentors will meet in person for the first time in two years at Arizona Western College for a conference today, Apr. 2. The 8th Annual Yuma County Early Childhood Education Conference is back and will feature a keynote speaker, exhibits, and workshops available in both English and Spanish. The conference begins at 7 a.m and goes until 2 p.m., anyone is welcome. (KYMA)
