Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:
- A growing number of Russians and Ukrainians are reportedly traveling to Mexico, buying cheap cars, and driving across the border into the United States to seek asylum. Some Russians and Ukrainians have also tried crossing between ports of entry, including near Yuma. A Reuters photographer saw a young Ukrainian couple with twins turn themselves over to U.S. border agents and ask for asylum on Jan. 22 in the Yuma area. (Reuters)
- Senator Kyrsten Sinema has nominated over 50 Arizona students for Service Academies in its 2022-2023 school year, including one student from Cibola High School in Yuma. Arizona's senior Senator can nominate students who are interested in joining the U.S. Service Academies to serve in their choice of the Armed Forces. (KYMA)
- Celebrate "3/10" in Yuma by watching a screening of "3:10 to Yuma" at the Historic Yuma Theatre! The City is hosting a double feature showing of this classic movie bearing Yuma's namesake. The 1957 film will be shown at 4:00 p.m., followed by the 2007 remake at 7 p.m. This event is open to all residents for free, and concessions will be available for purchase. (City of Yuma)
