Welcome back, Yuma! Here's everything you need to know to get this Monday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Breezy in the afternoon. High: 88 Low: 57.

Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. The victim of last week's fatal shooting on 5th Street, just west of Avenue B, has been identified by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO). On Saturday, authorities identified the shooting victim as 28-year-old Juan Alfredo Ruiz; his next of kin has been notified. The YCSO found and interviewed a person of interest in the case, though did not arrest the individual. The investigation is ongoing. (KYMA)
  2. The Arizona Board of Regents recently announced its Regents' Grants, designed to fuel research that will help uncover new solutions to persistent challenges for the people of Arizona. The board has approved five different proposals for grant funding, including $2.8 million in funding over three years for air quality improvement. With Yuma County's high ground-level ozone levels, residents are more susceptible to asthma, hospitalizations, and mortality. Learn more about the Regents' Grants and other approved proposals in the full story.
