🌱 YPD Error With Verizon 911 Calls? + Upcoming Title 42 Deadline

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Hey, Yuma! Let's get this Friday started off right. Here's everything going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and hot. High: 95 Low: 60.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. The Yuma Police Department has issued a warning of a potential outage for cell phone users dialing 9-1-1 with Verizon. The technical issue is not allowing callers to reach 9-1-1 and instead, they hear the "busy" line. The police are urging Yuma citizens with Verizon cell phones to contact YPD dispatch directly at 928-783-4421, which is in operation for 24 hours a day, until the issue is resolved. (KYMA)
  2. Title 42, the law that allows the U.S. Government to deport migrants before they can seek asylum, has now been in place for over two years and used by two different presidencies. The deadline to either extend or end Title 42 is coming up on Apr. 2 and the futures of millions of migrants hang in the balance. The Biden Administration says it's preparing for what could be a surge in crossings if the policy ends, as an unknown number of asylum seekers are likely waiting in Mexico for the policy to end. (KYMA)
  3. On the morning of Wednesday, Mar. 23, the Yuma Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle collision with injuries in the 500 block of South 6th Avenue that turned out to be an attempted homicide. Police found a 30-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of the suspect vehicle. The victim was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and was further flown to a hospital in the Phoenix area with life-threatening injuries. The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this case to please call the Yuma Police Department at (928) 783-4421 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
