🌱 Yuma Dem. Party Signature Slam + 32nd St. Shooting Update

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Yuma.

Hey, people of Yuma! It's me again, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Yuma Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 86 Low: 53.

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. On Saturday, the Yuma County Democratic Party held a "Signature Slam" drive at their 4th Avenue Yuma headquarters to help get their candidates on upcoming ballots. From local-level positions like city council and state representatives to state-wide positions like treasurer and governor, hopeful candidates must collect a sufficient number of signatures from local residents in their district to appear on a ballot. Party chair Xanthe Bullard told KYMA these signature events make it easier for voters who want to endorse multiple Democratic candidates at once. (KYMA)
  2. The Yuma Police Department shared more details on an incident they responded to on Friday, Mar. 11., in the 600 block E. 32nd Street. Around 12:35 p.m., police received reports of shots fired between two male subjects after a "physical disturbance." Several residences and property were reportedly struck with stray projectiles. According to YPD, 31-year-old Norman Lopez was arrested for shooting 29-year-old Apollo Obrien, who was injured in the incident. Both subjects were booked into jail, as Obrien had allegedly also committed crimes. (Yuma Police Department)
  3. Yuma is in for a sunny and warm week ahead! Expect low temperatures in the 50s and 60s and highs in the mid-80s all week, with wind gusts up to 20 mph. Get the detailed local forecast on Patch. (Yuma Patch)
