Person killed in 2-vehicle Interstate 430 crash; Little Rock police say driver was fleeing (arkansasonline.com) — A driver fleeing from Little Rock police while going the wrong way on Interstate 430 near Stagecoach Road crashed around 2 a.m. Friday, killing a passenger and injuring others. Arkansas State Police are investigating, and Little Rock police say they're still gathering details before releasing more information.
2. Hot Springs man arrested, faces capital murder charge after shooting at Little Rock convenience store (arkansasonline.com) — Little Rock police say a man was arrested after an early Friday shooting at a Circle K on South University Avenue that left one person dead and another injured. Officers found two men with gunshot wounds, and one later died at a hospital. The suspect, from Hot Springs, faces a capital murder charge as investigators continue working to identify the victims.
3. Little Rock Zoo family mourns loss of beloved mini horse (thv11.com) — Little Rock Zoo staff and fans are mourning Zelda, a 27-year-old miniature horse who died from sudden gastrointestinal issues after decades delighting visitors. Keepers remember her playful personality, love of chase games, and signature whinny, and note she leaves behind fellow mini-horse Zinnamon and mini-donkey Zipper.
4. East Little Rock fire destroys house, damages another (arkansasonline.com) — Firefighters in east Little Rock quickly knocked down a Friday night blaze that destroyed one vacant house on Bender Street and damaged another next door. No injuries were reported, and crews stayed on scene to douse lingering hot spots. The homes sit just southeast of the Interstate 30 bridge over the Arkansas River.
5. UA Little Rock Student Athlete Takes Next Step Toward Physical Therapy Career (ualr.edu) — A UA Little Rock biology major and Trojans track athlete spent the summer interning at a sports therapy clinic in Texas, sharpening her skills for a future in physical therapy.
