Little Rock historic home catches fire after lightning strike (kark.com) — A historic Little Rock home known as the Kirby House was heavily damaged Monday morning when lightning struck its roof, but the family inside escaped without injuries. Little Rock firefighters say the 1887 structure's second floor and roof suffered significant damage, and the residents are now focused on salvaging belongings as restoration work begins.
   

2. Community calls for answers after video shows Little Rock officer holding gun to man's head (thv11.com) — Little Rock residents are demanding answers after body camera video showed an LRPD officer holding a gun to 23-year-old Gregory Williams' head during an August 9 arrest at a South University Avenue gas station. Family members, community activists, and the NAACP are calling for the officer's decertification, a boycott of the business involved, and a full investigation, while LRPD says the officer is relieved of duty pending review.
   

3. Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame sets 2026 Induction Night (kark.com) — Little Rock–area residents can celebrate Arkansas women's achievements at the Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame's 10th annual induction ceremony this Thursday at the North Little Rock Event Center. Seven honorees will be recognized for shaping communities statewide, with public receptions, a dinner program, and a livestream giving locals multiple ways to take part.
   

4. Little Rock writer Jeffrey Condran awarded 2026 Porter Fund Literary Prize (arktimes.com) — Little Rock readers can celebrate local author and UA–Little Rock professor Jeffrey Condran, who just won the 2026 Porter Fund Literary Prize and will be honored October 2 at CALS' Main Library downtown. The longtime Six Bridges Book Festival organizer and Zeitgeist Reading Series co-runner is also working on new books inspired by Arkansas art and nature.
   

5. Attorney General Griffin, High School Broyles Award, and Coaches vs. Overdoses Announce Effort to Expand Fentanyl Prevention Resources in Schools (einpresswire.com) — Little Rock residents heard a new push against fentanyl overdoses announced today at the Little Rock Touchdown Club, where Attorney General Tim Griffin backed a statewide "Coaches vs. Overdoses Week." Schools and coaches can request free prevention playbooks to spark locker-room conversations with students about counterfeit pills, fentanyl dangers, and overdose prevention throughout the school year.
