Celebrate World Binturong Day at the Zoo!
Ever heard of a binturong? These unique animals, often called “bearcats,” are neither bears nor cats—they’re fascinating creatures with thick fur, long tails, and a scent that resembles popcorn! Native to the forests of Southeast Asia, binturongs play a crucial role in their environments, as seed dispersers, ecosystem engineers, and predators. In the wild, they face threats such as habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Visit the Zoo to learn more!
Fun Fact: Binturongs are one of two carnivorous (meat-eating) species with a prehensile (grasping) tail.
