3 Of Yelp's Top 5 Best New Restaurants Are In CA

Three of Yelp’s top five best new restaurants of 2026 are in California.

The review website included 25 restaurants in its ranking, choosing from eateries that opened after Jan. 1, 2025, based on factors including volume and ratings of reviews, as well as input from trend expert Tara Lewis.

“Chosen with the help of Yelp’s passionate community of reviewers, these newcomers aren’t just serving memorable food — they’re creating unforgettable experiences,” Yelp said in its announcement of the ranking.

The highest-ranked California restaurant was Firstborn in Los Angeles at No. 2. Anthony Wang, the chef and owner, blends Chinese-American heritage and classic European training, according to Yelp.

Eylan in Menlo Park is next at No. 4, showcasing Cal-Indian cuisine around a live-fire grill, Yelp said.

At No. 5 is Lilo in Carlsbad, which incorporates seasonality and Japanese influences, according to Yelp.

All three have received some Michelin recognition, Yelp said.

Rounding out the top five are Filthy Animal in Tempe, Arizona, at No. 1, and Limusina in New York, at No. 3.

Other California restaurants on the list include Ah Ma’s Kitchen in San Francisco, which was ranked No. 16, and Lucia in Los Angeles, ranked No. 19.
