This year's list of winners and honorable mentions spans parks across 24 counties.

From coastal beaches to redwood forests, California State Parks Foundation's 2026 poll results put the state's most beloved parks in the spotlight.

The foundation recently released the results of its second annual "Best of California's State Parks" poll, showcasing parks selected across 12 categories, including two new additions this year: best state park for water activities and best state park for hidden gem experience.

More than 2,000 people participated in the poll, nominating and voting for their favorite parks. Many participants also shared photos and personal stories about California's 280 state parks, which span coastal, desert, woodland, urban and historic landscapes across the state.

"The 'Best of California's State Parks' poll highlights the deep connection that people have to our parks," said Rachel Norton, executive director of California State Parks Foundation.

"These places represent the incredible diversity of experiences we can find in our state parks, from exploring the coast to learning about our history," she added. "We hope Californians will use the 'Best of California's State Parks' poll results to get inspired to get outdoors with family and friends."

Winners included Emerald Bay State Park in El Dorado County for water activities and Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Sonoma and Napa counties for hidden gem experiences.

This year's list of winners and honorable mentions spans parks across 24 counties, according to the foundation.

The poll also reflects the diversity of California's state park system, which includes more than 340 miles of coastline, 970 miles of lake and river frontage, 15,000 campsites, 5,200 miles of trails, more than 3,000 historic buildings, and more than 11,000 known prehistoric and historic archaeological sites.
