McDonald's Classic Fried Apple Pie Returns To CA Locations Ahead Of America's 250th Birthday

McDonald's Fried Apple Pie is back at participating restaurants nationwide, including in California, for a limited time.

The chain said the dessert will be available all day while supplies last. The Fried Apple Pie features U.S.-grown apples wrapped in a fried, flaky crust.

The company said the menu item is a revival of a recipe that first appeared in McDonald's restaurants in the 1960s and remained on menus through the early 1990s.

The pie was originally created by East Tennessee McDonald's owner-operator Litton Cochran, whose family recipe became popular before expanding nationwide, according to the company.

"There are certain things that just take you back — and the Fried Apple Pie is one of them," McDonald's owner-operator Eric Cochran said in a statement. "It's something that people love and remember from growing up."

Cochran added that his grandfather suggested the classic dessert while Ray Kroc, the former owner of McDonald's Corporation, was developing dessert offerings, and said the family worked for months to refine the recipe.

McDonald's said the return coincides with celebrations leading up to the nation's 250th birthday.

"Bringing the Fried Apple Pie back for fans this summer to celebrate America's 250th just feels right," Cochran said.

The Fried Apple Pie is available at participating McDonald's restaurants and through the McDonald's app while supplies last.
