Alligator Kills NorCal Woman In 'Completely Bizarre' Incident: Reports

A 31-year-old woman who grew up in Sacramento has died after being attacked by an alligator in a river northeast of Orlando, according to reports.

Brittany Clark, a Florida resident at the time of her death who attended Sacramento’s Kennedy High School, per The Sacramento Bee, was killed in what a GoFundMe created to raise money to transport her remains to California described as “a completely bizarre accident.”

“She was an amazing person and a fun-loving soul,” her relative, Gena Smith, wrote on the GoFundMe webpage.

The attack occurred in the Little Big Econ State Forest at the Econlockhatchee River, the Bee reported. Clark, her boyfriend and her best friend had been hiking on June 28 when they stopped to swim in the 3-foot water, authorities said in a news conference streamed by LiveNOW from FOX on YouTube.

The alligator bit Clark on both arms, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Public Information Officer Chad Weber, who said that her boyfriend called for aid, but she died on the way to the hospital.

The animal, which eventually released Clark, remained in the area in the aftermath of the attack, Lt. Grant Eller said.

“They’re very territorial this time of year,” he said at the news conference, noting the attack occurred after alligator mating season.

The alligator had performed a “death roll” on Clark, violently spinning her, according to the Bee, which noted her boyfriend fought back, but the animal pulled them both underwater. A 12-foot alligator believed to be responsible for Clark's death has since been captured and put down, the newspaper reported.
