Rice Possibly Contaminated With 'Foreign Materials' Recalled In CA And 11 Other States

RICHVALE, CA — The Food and Drug Administration announced a brand of Jasmine rice has been recalled in California and multiple states due to potential contamination with a "foreign materials."

The recall affects 2-pound bags of Lundberg Family Farms' Lundberg Organic Jasmine White Rice, which was was originally recalled in April. The FDA updated the recall including a dozen states in August.

More than 27,000 bags of the jasmine rice were affected by the recall which were was sold at Giant, Target, Walmart, Wegmans, and Whole Foods stores in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, according to the FDA.

The Universal Product Code on the recalled rice is 073416-040281. The affected lot code are 260201MA with a best-by date of Feb. 1, 2027, and 260202MA with a best-by date of Feb. 2, 2027, according to the FDA.

In April, Lundberg Family Farms, which is based in Richvale, confirmed in a statement that the company issued a voluntary Class II recall of about 4,500 cases of the bags of rice out of an abundance of caution, per USA Today.

According to the FDA, a Class II recall is "a situation where use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

In April, Lundberg Family Farms said no illnesses had been reported from consumption of the affected product. The recall was isolated to a single production run, USA Today reported.
