Black Bear Struck, Killed By Car Near Bakersfield
A bear was killed Thursday in a remote area near Lake Isabella, fire officials say.
LAKE ISABELLA, CA — A black bear died Thursday after being struck by a car on a highway near Bakersfield, authorities said.
The driver hit the bear just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday on SR 178 near Lake Isabella, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
The crash killed the bear, officials said. It damaged the vehicle and caused the airbags to deploy, but the driver was not hurt.

Fire officials said that Thursday's incident marked the second bear/vehicle collision on Highway 178 in the past two months.
