How Can I Vote?

This week, ballots and voter guides are being sent to every registered voter in the state. And with COVID-19 cases still circulating and on the rise again, voters are encouraged to vote-by-mail.

For those voting by mail, a ballot needs to be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service as long as the vote-by-mail ballot is postmarked on or before Election Day.

Those voting in person can look to their local registrar to find out where local ballot boxes are placed in town. There are ballot drop boxes throughout each of California's 58 counties in which to deposit them. Please check your county or city website to find a ballot box near you.

How Can I Register?

For those who need to register, they can do so by May 23 to cast a ballot in this year's election. To register online, visit www.registertovote.ca.gov/.

Registration applications can also be found at post offices, government offices and public libraries.

For those who miss the deadline, same day registration will be available for "conditional" registration, in which a provisional ballot is given out.

Can I Track My Ballot?

Yes. The state allows voters to sign up to track a ballot throughout the process. The site offers a free subscription that sends automatic notifications by text, email, or voicemail on the status of the ballot.

What's On The Ballot?

This year's election ballot is a lengthy one, with dozens of contests and candidates. Voters should read instructions carefully and remember to sign and date the Return Envelope before casting a ballot.

The ballot contains two concurrent elections for the U.S. Senate seat. One for the remainder of Kamala Harris' term that runs through January 3, 2023, and the second for the full 6-year term from January 3, 2023–2029. Voters can vote for both contests.

Californians can also view online candidate statements from candidates appearing on the ballot for nonpartisan County and judicial offices. This is in addition to the printed statement in the Sample Ballot book.

Election materials are available in 18 different languages. Voters can request their ballot and materials by returning the Language Request Form on the Sample Ballot or by calling 800-815-2666, option 3.
