Hikers Dies After Falling At 'Popular' CA Trail: Report

Authorities said the hiker may have plunged about 30 feet.

VENTURA, CA — A hiker was found dead after he reportedly fell about 30 feet down a near a popular mountain trail in Ventura County on Sunday.

According to Ventura County Fire Department, the hiker was reported to have fallen around 12:15 p.m. in Los Padres National Forest, the Ventura County Star reported.

Authorities said air support was requested but the hiker, a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead after he was found near the Punch Bowls swimming holes, which the U.S. National Forest Service called "very popular" destination where there is also a 30-foot waterfall.

A sheriff's spokesperson said the hiker may have fallen about 30 feet, SFGate reported.

The victim's identity and cause of death have not been released by the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office.
