Man Arrested After Jumping Onto Wine Truck, Guzzling Wine: Police

A California man was arrested twice in two days, including one offense in which he guzzled wine onboard a wine truck, according to police.

STANLISLAUS COUNTY, CA — A 39-year-old man was arrested twice in two days last week, including one offense in which he allegedly hitched a ride on a tanker truck full of wine and began drinking it straight from the tank, according to police.

Gabriel Moreno, of Hayward, was first arrested May 5 after he pulled alongside the big-rig on Highway 99 in Stanislaus County, caught the driver's attention and convinced him to pull over.

Moreno then got out of his car and jumped on the back of the trailer as the driver attempted to drive away, the Modesto Bee reported. He then unscrewed a valve and tried to drink wine from the tank, causing the driver to notice on a dashboard gauge that his truck was losing weight.

The driver pulled over once again, and found Moreno "lying on the ground and doing snow angels, basically, as the wine was pouring down on him" the California Highway Patrol told the Bee. Moreno was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.

After being released Wednesday, however, he apparently ran afoul of the law again — Moreno was arrested in a Modesto parking lot after trying to steal a car. The reason? He wasn't in custody long enough to get a sandwich, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office.
