Surfer Bit By Shark Off California Coast

The Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department says the attack is the first of its kind on the beach.

FERNDALE, CA — At around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, officials were sent to Centerville Beach after receiving a report of a shark bite, according to the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department.

The patient, a 31-year-old male surfer, according to the local newsoutletkymkemp.com, was transported by City Ambulance to a hospital. According to the outlet, “emergency personnel speaking over a scanner said that the surfer had ‘Code 3 trauma’ with a hemorrhage in the upper thigh that was being controlled with a trauma tourniquet.”

“To our recollection of our membership, we have not had an incident like this,” the Ferndale Volunteer Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post. “This is a reminder that there are many hazards to be aware of when you are at the beach.”
