Massive Salmonella Recall Hits As CA Company Warns Customers Not To Eat These Products

SALINAS, CA — A California-based company announced it is voluntarily recalling some its products with jalapeno ingredients over concerns about potential salmonella contamination.

Taylor Fresh Foods, parent company of Taylor Farms headquartered in Salinas, announced the recall on Sunday after learning Coast Citrus Distributors began voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños that may have been contaminated with salmonella. The company said a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, which is a supplier to Coast Citrus Distributors, was the potential source of the salmonella outbreak.

The recalled products include salsas, guacamole, and other prepared foods that were distributed to multiple states by Taylor Farms. The recalled products have a "Best If Used By" date up to and including Aug. 16, 2026.

The recalled products were sold at stores including Kroger, Stop & Shop, Target, Trader Joe's, Walmart, Whole Foods, and Maine-based supermarket chain Hannaford.

Last month, Taylor Farms voluntarily recalled iceberg lettuce products sourced from central Mexico because of a potential link to cyclospora. The announcement came amid an outbreak blamed for sickening thousands across the U.S. and linked to two deaths in Michigan due to dehydration and complications from cyclospora.

Taylor Farms describes itself as one of the leading global producers of salads and healthy fresh foods, according to its website.

The company has production facilities across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Western Europe.

In 2024, Taylor Farms made headlines as a potential source of an E. coli outbreak found in slivered onions sold at McDonald's restaurants across the country.

Some stores nationwide have also voluntarily recalled salsas in connection with the salmonella outbreak that has sickened people in over two dozen states.

On Sunday, the FDA also announced a wider recall of products containing jalapeños sold in Illinois and elsewhere by other stores, including Whole Foods and Walmart.

The recalls come after health officials with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said last week they were investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to jalapeno peppers from Mexico that have reportedly sickened 345 people in 27 states.

According to the Mayo Clinic, salmonella poisoning is a bacterial infection that can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. The infection can be severe for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

Taylor Fresh Farms is one of the largest ​producers of salads and fresh-cut vegetables in the U.S., and regular supplier to supermarket chains and restaurant operators.

Taylor said it has stopped sourcing products from the farmer and will be using alternative suppliers. The company said it was not aware of any reports of illness linked to its products that include jalapeños.

Consumers who have any of the recalled products were advised to not consume the food and discard it immediately. The company said consumers can receive refunds from the retailers where the recalled products were purchased.
