NIPTON, CA — A very tiny California town has been sold to a new owner, according to multiple reports.

Nipton, which consists of a population of 15 to 20 people, just sold to a group out of Las Vegas, Nexstar’s KLAS reported. The sale has not yet been made public.

American Green Inc., one of the nation's largest cannabis companies, announced it has bought the entire 80 acre California desert town of Nipton in 2017. The town changed ownership yet again in 2022 when it was sold to a group in Las Vegas. (AP Photo/John Locher)

The 80-acre town was listed for $2.5 million in late 2020. The small community in the Mojave Desert has one hotel, one restaurant, five eco-cabins, 10 teepees and an RV park. It also draws stargazers and those looking for a peaceful getaway with its massive Joshua Tree forest on one side.

The town's ownership has changed several times over the last few years and is just over an hour away from Las Vegas, which was founded just a few months after Nipton.

In 2017, the town was purchased by a Phoenix-based marijuana company American Green Inc. The company bought the town with ambitious plans to turn the nearly deserted area into a cannabis friendly resort destination. The company announced in March 2018 that it sold Nipton to Delta International Oil & Gas in a cash and stock deal worth about $7.7 million.
