The Bottom Line

  • PG&E has asked state regulators to allow it to once again increase residential utility rates so it can give its shareholders more profit. Last year, it increased electricity rates on five times and lowered bills once, equating to an average annual bill increase of $440.
  • California continues to make major progress in building out the state's electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A new report from Axios found that between August and February, the number of public chargers in the state increased over 17% — adding more than 26,000 EV chargers in six month.
  • California's largest insurer, State Farm, will be allowed to increase home insurance rates by 22% after approval by state regulators. The company said it made the request in response to the wildfires that tore through Los Angeles County in January.
