Sheriff's Deputy Shot And Killed In Line Of Duty

EL DORADO COUNTY, CA — A sheriff's deputy was shot and killed in El Dorado County Wednesday morning while responding to a call.

Brian Ishmael, a four-year veteran with the El Dorado County Sheriff's office, was shot while responding to a call near Sand Ridge Road in Somerset. A deputy from another county who was on a ride-along with Ishmael was injured during the shooting and has been released from the hospital.

Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statement, saying, “Jennifer and I were terribly saddened to learn that Deputy Ishmael was shot and killed this morning while courageously serving and protecting the people of El Dorado County. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this painful time.”

Two men are in custody but the scene of the shooting is still active, the sheriff's office said.

Ishmael is survived by his wife and three daughters. Flags at all state buildings will be flown at half-staff in his honor, according to a relief from the governor's office.
