Agoura Gets a New Hotel...Sort of

The Renaissance Hotel has become a Sheraton, and that's beneficial for the community, according to city officials.

Agoura Hills has acquired a Sheraton hotel in the form of the previously named Renaissance Hotel. The establishment, located at 30100 Agoura Rd, made the changeover on July 28, and renovations are planned for all the rooms and public areas. The hotel, which is managed by Davidson Hotels and Resorts, was acquired by an affiliated of Whelk Street Capital.

“We were recently purchased,” said Matt Huss, the hotel’s general manager. “We’re very happy about all of the stuff going on here.”

In the next two years, the Sheraton chain is hoping to add more than 65 new hotels and 23,000 rooms as part of its strategic expansion plan, according to a recent press release. Each of the 280 guest rooms in the Agoura Hills hotel has high-speed internet access and a flat-screen TV, said the release. Not to mention the views of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Agoura Hills City Manager Greg Ramirez is happy to see a Sheraton enter the community. “I think it is a positive for the community as a whole,” said Ramirez. “The Sheraton chain has very positive brand recognition amongst consumers, and the renovations will only enhance the facility.”

Jill Lederer, president and CEO of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, is likewise excited about the change.  “I think it’s a benefit,” said Lederer. “The Renaissance has been an integral part of the city of Agoura Hills. I think adding the Sheraton name and remodeling will give people an extra choice of a very nice place to stay.”

The Sheraton is also suited for social functions and business meetings and boasts 17,000 square feet for meeting space as well as current meetings technology, said the release. The Sheraton also has a restaurant, swimming pool and fully equipped fitness facility, which will provide the Sheraton’s health and fitness program.

“Being the only full-service hotel in Agoura Hills, obtaining any market edge possible, is crucial in these trying economic times,” said Ramirez.

The management, including Huss, will stay intact, which is to the community’s benefit, said Ramirez.

“It is most important to the city, from my perspective, that the management of the hotel remains the same,” said Ramirez. “Matt Huss, general manager, will stay on board as far as I am aware and that is wonderful. Matt has been a terrific partner of the City and community for years and will hopefully play a continued role in developing the region’s developing tourism/visitor effort.”
