Agoura, Make Your Home More Green With Drought-Friendly Plants

The California Native Plant Society's fall plant sale will run through Saturday, offering native plants from mint and sage to trees.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — A green home is a happy home. This week, making your home green doesn't have to break the bank, thanks to a California Native Plant Society sale on drought-friendly plants.

The sale started Friday and will run through Saturday, with pickup on Oct. 16. The sale includes over 50 types of plant species native to California, which means they are pretty low maintenance. These plant species thrive in the Southern California climate and can survive off of rainfall.

Species for sale include many types of trees, grasses, shrubs, flowers, succulents and more. The plants come in multiple different sizes. You can check out what plants are right for your area by putting your zip code into the Calscape website.

Planting California native species has many practical benefits; the California Native Plant Society said opting for native plants can save money and water and are generally pesticide free. Additionally, many native plants attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other beautiful wildlife, which aren't only beautiful to look at but can help pollinate and pest-control a garden.

Having plants in the house has also been proven to alleviate stress and anxiety, according to Net-A-Porter.
