Blue Table

Enjoy fresh paninis and crisp salads, European style.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Agoura Hills Patch picks a great restaurant either in a town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

Overview: If walking the streets of Florence, munching on a fresh panini while enjoying the Piazza Navona in Rome aren't on your immediate agenda, not to worry. European-style dining is just minutes away and new to the Whizin's Center. Blue Table's menu is full of daily specials and fresh salads, sandwiches, soups, and even European chocolates. All of the food is prepared by Italian chef Stefano Lisi with fresh and local seasonal produce. This is a great place to grab a meal on a lunch break or call in an order to-go and head to the beach. In addition to complete meals, Blue Table also sells specialty oils, jams, spread, and balsamics. They carry frozen packages of many popular items like gnocchi and Italian ice cream. If you are looking to cater a wine and cheese event, your next office party, or random get-together, make sure to check their catering menu. They are open seven days a week.

Decor: The little tables out front, adorned with single stemmed flowers, are simple and elegant and give you the true al fresco dining experience. The tables inside are communal, and local art covers the walls.  This place gets busy and is quite popular, so be aware of limited seating.  Of course, there's always the beach!

Picnics: Speaking of which, they have a full picnic menu. With 24-hour notice, they put together your selection, plates, utensils, and a napkin in a picnic bag. Choose from a Cheese Plate  ($16) with fresh crackers and fruit, or Traditional Caprese ($12) with reduced balsamic vinaigrette. Get a Sandwich Box ($16) or Lunch Bag ($12.25) filled with a sandwich, chip, drink and cookie. There are also options that are kid friendly.

The Drinks: There is no alcohol at this location, but they allow customers to bring their own. They have a fun assortment of artisan sodas, bottled waters, and juices. Republic Tea, Calypso Lemonade, and Danesi Coffee are popular products they carry.

Daily Specials: Their menu is constantly full of new specials and creations. Visit their web site before you go in. They offer more than 20 different specials daily. Look for soups like Mushroom and hot favorites Chicken Parmesian, Mac & Cheese, Turkey Meatloaf and Braciola. Their fresh salad specials include Italian Baked Beans, Pesto Pasta Salad, Fregola with Sundried Tomatoes, and Tuna Romana Salad. For those of you with a sweet tooth, there's Lemon Bars (my favorite), Cinnamon Sugar Espresso Cookies, and Triple Chocolate Brownies.

Salads: Salads are always fresh, crisp, and delicious! My favorite is the Grilled Cilantro & Lime Breast ($7.99) with homemade house vinaigrette. If you love beets, try the Roasted Baby Beet Salad ($7.99) with goat cheese, roasted pecans, and house vinaigrette. Can't decide which salad you want? Order the Salad Trio ($10.50) or Salad Duo ($9.95) and try a couple different ones.

Paninis/Sandwiches: They had me at panini. My favorite, which you can see on this , is the Caprese Panini ($7.99) with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and eggplant. The Ellen's Special ($7.99) is one of the most popular, with turkey, ham, goat cheese, fig-onion jam and garlic aioli.  For meat lovers, try the Pastrami ($9.99) with carmelized onions, the Italian Sausage with Peppers ($9.99), or the Porchetta ($9.99) with Italian rosemary ham and fresh mozzarella. With more than 15 different specialty sandwiches on the menu, you won't be disappointed. All paninis and sandwiches are served with a fresh salad.

Pizza: The city of Naples may have created pizza, but Blue Table has perfected it. Their Italian pizzas are 10 inches and served traditionally with thin crust. The Calabria ($11.99) is topped with fresh mozzarella and spicy salami. The Agoura ($13.99) is a must-try, because it is named after the city, and is also delicious with Italian sausage, peppers, and mushrooms. Looking for the traditional pizza? They serve The Napoli ($11.99) with fresh basil and tomatoes.

Cheese & Sweets: Enjoy a cheese plate or the Cheese Antipasto ($18) with three different cheeses, a variety of sliced cured meats, seasonal fruits and crackers. (Order out for a date night at home?) Their cookies are baked fresh daily and change frequently, as well as cake specials. Make sure to check their fridge for special ice cream treats.
