101 Freeway Brush Fire Knocked Down

A wildfire scorched five acres in an area of heavy brush along the 101 Freeway in Calabasas.

Updated: A brush fire charred about five acres of brush today along the northbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Calabasas before being knocked down by firefighters with the help of water-dropping aircraft.

The blaze was reported near Parkway Calabasas at 10:44 a.m., county fire Dispatch Supervisor Randall Wright said.

In light of a Red Flag warning due to conditions ripe for wildfires, county fire “sent 155 firefighters, four water-dropping helicopters and two Super Scooper fixed-winged aircraft to fight” the flames, Wright said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department sent three ground crews, one battalion chief and one water-dropping helicopter as support for the county firefighters, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

A knock-down was declared at 11:18 a.m. Wright said, adding that crews “will stay at the scene to put out any hotspots that pop up.”

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
