AGOURA HILLS, CA — The popular Cheeseboro Canyon Trailhead has reopened to the public with a host of improvements, including new parking lots, toilets and equestrian amenities.

The National Park Service in September began work on the project, which was meant to mitigate drainage issues and eliminate flooding hazards while improving public services. The project replaced an existing asphalt and dirt parking lot that was part of the property when it was acquired by the NPS in 1980, according to Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area officials.

Here's a rundown of the improvements:

The project was paid for with federal funds and private dollars from the National Park Foundation, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund and the estate of Clifford Holmes.
