Forum to Address Moral Dimension of Climate Change
"Climate Change: A Moral and Spiritual Imperative" will be the topic of a Community Forum in Newbury Park on Saturday evening, April 12.Sharon Markenson, a member of former Vice President Al Gore's Climate Reality Project, will speak at the 7:30 p.m. forum at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road in Newbury Park.
Markenson will explain relevant climate science in detail and discuss recent extreme climate events. She will report on how global warming affects both natural and human systems, and address the political, economic and moral fallout of these conditions.
Markenson is one of 6,000 climate reality leaders trained by Gore to serve in more than 100 countries. She said her emphasis will be on what each person can do to save the planet -- "there is much more than most of us realize."
Gore shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for efforts to build up and disseminate information on man-made climate change and lay foundations for measures to counteract it.
Markenson will lead a discussion after her presentation. The forum is open to the public and free. For information, visit forum.cvuuf.org or call (805) 374-9818.
