Conejo Valley YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is part of a national YMCA initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families. The day will feature activities such as a petting zoo, archery, horseback riding, healthy snacks, art and crafts—all designed to keep kids moving and to motivate and teach families how to get active and develop healthy routines at home.
Nationwide, nearly 1.2 million children and their families are expected to participate in YMCA’s Healthy Kids day at more than 1,300 YMCAs across the country.

“Families are tempted to take the summer off when it comes to exercise and overall child development,” says Allison Wilson, the Conejo Y’s membership and healthy living director. “Kids are less physically active and less engaged in learning during the summer months. Research shows that children gain weight two to three times faster during the summer vacation than during the school year. A child’s development is never on vacation and YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day serves as kick-off event for sustained initiative that helps kids stay healthy and achieving all summer long.”
YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day takes place at the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks). For more information, call 805-523-7613 or visit www.conejoymca.org.
