Dehydrated Hikers Rescued South of Agoura Hills

The group of hikers overextended themselves in a southwestern section of Malibu Creek State Park on Easter Day.

It took Malibu Search and Rescue workers and Los Angeles County Firefighters about 90 minutes, but they found five dehydrated hikers who overextended themselves in a spring trek in Malibu Creek State Park, a fire dispatch supervisor said.

The call for help came in at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.

Malibu SAR workers and Fire Department searchers found the hikers at 11:15 p.m. Sunday around the Bulldog Motorway and Castro Peak Motorway, Pickett said. The hike starts in Corral Canyon outside of Malibu and goes up into the Santa Monica Mountains near Agoura Hills.

"The hike was more strenuous than they expected, they didn't have enough water and they went farther than they expected,'' he said.

The hikers were in good enough physical condition to take ground transportation back to their vehicles, Pickett said.
