Rabbi Michael Barclay discusses and signs Sacred Relationships at Barnes & Noble Thousand Oaks
Rabbi Michael Barclay of the New Shul of the Conejo in Agoura Hills will discuss and sign his new book Sacred Relationships: Biblical Wisdom for Deepening Our Lives Together on Sunday, March 10 at 2 PM at Barnes & Noble Thousand Oaks.
The Ketuvim, the last 11 books of the Hebrew Scripture (known to Christians as the Old Testament), are the original self-help books, a source of wisdom for millions of people for thousands of years. But while people of all faith traditions are superficially familiar with Psalms, Proverbs, and the stories of Job, Esther, and Daniel, the books of the Ketuvim are so steeped in ancient history that they can be inaccessible to many modern readers. In Sacred Relationships, Rabbi Michael Barclay re-examines these familiar Bible stories, mining them for their deeper meaning and emphasizing their relevance to our busy modern lives. Barclay sees these books not only as hidden pathways to a personal, direct, and intimate encounter with God, but also as a guide to turning pain into peace, to being present in each and every moment of our lives, and, ultimately, to deepening our relationships with those around us.
Though written by a Jewish rabbi, Sacred Relationships has drawn praise from spiritual leaders of other faiths that hold the Bible sacred, including Protestant, Catholic and Anglican clergy: in fact, the book is published by Liturgical Press, the largest Catholic book publisher in the country. It’s appropriate for anyone who wants to “not only know the Sacred, but also to make every moment holy in the world.”
