The Four Preps and The New Chordettes Come to Thousand Oaks

A fundraiser features local entertainers. By Rosalind Marmel

The Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra is hosting its very first benefit concert at the Kavli Theatre in Thousand Oaks on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:00 pm. This remarkable orchestra of the most talented young people in the region alongside professional musicians will perform with two legendary Pop artists: The Four Preps and The New Chordettes. Under the baton of Bill Benson, the orchestra will also feature composer/arranger Ed Lojeski on piano.

What a unique and fun concert this will be for the region. The Four Preps features their original lead singer, Bruce Belland, who founded the Preps in 1954 while still in high school. Their music is not only beautiful and full of high energy; they will also make you laugh with their wit and repartee.

Also performing is The New Chordettes, four amazing women vocalists who combine choreography and slick and sassy comedy into their act, along with audience participation. Those of us driving around in the 50’s and 60’s might remember their hits including “Mr. Sandman”, “Lollipop,” and “Never On A Sunday.” They will also provide Big Band stylings for such standards as “In the Mood”, “Stardust” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”
