Get Out for Some Weekend Fun: July 13-15

Here are some events and activities taking place in and around the neighborhood this weekend.

We know you don't always stay in the neighborhood for the weekend, so here are some  events and activities taking place Saturday and Sunday in town and nearby. And best of all, they're all free!

Ride the High Country film screening:The Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council is presenting a special movie experience with the under the stars at the . Ride the High Country stars former Thousand Oaks resident Joel McCrea and filming locations included the Santa Monica Mountains. Originally appearing as a second feature in 1962, the movie earned its way to top billing through public appeal and won First Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and Film of the Year by Newsweek. The free event takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site and Park, 30400 Rainbow Crest Drive, Agoura Hills.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs film screening: Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks hosts its free at 7 p.m. Friday in its level-two dining terrace. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a PG-rated film that the Internet Movie Database recaps as follows: "The most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain." Fashion Square is located at 14006 Riverside Drive, Sherman Oaks.

Grandparents and Books library program: , or GAB, is a program hosted by the various branches of the Los Angeles Public Library where adult volunteers spend time with children, sharing their love of reading. GAB volunteers are available at the Encino-Tarzana Branch Library on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All children are welcome. The library is at 18231 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana.

Hugo film screening: The Valley Cultural Center has expanded its free outdoor programming at Warner Park to include Movies on the Green. Outdoor family movies will be presented from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday evenings July 14 through Aug. 25 and are projected on a 30-foot screen with digital projection and 7.1 surround sound. Saturday's series opening will feature Hugo, a PG-rated film that the Internet Movie Database recaps as follows: "Set in 1930s Paris, an orphan who lives in the walls of a train station is wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton." The park is located at 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills.

Jazz Concert: Night Blooming Jazzmen will open the Saturday. The series will continue on July 21 with a performance by John Daversa and on July 28 with Terry Harrington. The events will also feature food trucks. The concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 10400 Zelzah Ave., Northridge (across from Granada Hills High School).
