Heat Advisory Issued In Agoura Hills As Temps Reach High 90s

AGOURA HILLS, CA — A National Weather Service heat advisory is in effect until Tuesday at 8 pm in Agoura Hills, where temperatures climbed to 95 degrees Monday.

The advisory has been extended to Tuesday night throughout the San Fernando Valley and the Antelope Valley, where temperatures reached 100 or more in several locations. Lancaster is expected to see a high of 103 Monday, according to Accuweather.

Winds in Agoura Hills are moderate at 5 mph, but fire danger remains high. The UV index, which measures harmful rays, is also 8, which is considered very high.

Temperatures are expected to drop to less dangerous levels beginning Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to rise to 91 Tuesday, then 87 Wednesday, and 83 for the rest of the week.
Forecasters urged people to drink plenty of fluids, seek out air-conditioned spaces and check in on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," the NWS said.

"Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes."

The Topanga Library is the nearest available cooling center. The Westlake Village Library will also serve as a cooling center when it opens Tuesday at noon.
