How to Solve Climate Change and Strengthen the Economy
Physicist Richard Elsley will offer a strategy to combat global warming at a Community Forum in Newbury Park.

How to solve climate change and strengthen the economy will be the focus of a Community Forum on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Newbury Park.
Physicist Richard Elsley, who holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University, will make the case for putting a price on carbon-based fuels at the 7 p.m. forum at 3327 Old Conejo Road. Helen Cox, Sustainability Division Manager for the City of Thousand Oaks, will discuss policy and engaging the government to act on climate change.
Scientists have established that burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that trap the sun's heat, warming the Earth. Elsley will explain how gradually putting a price on carbon-based fuels including coal, petroleum and natural gas can make sustainable, renewable energy sources a cheaper alternative. He says a carbon tax would strengthen the economy and improve national security while solving the problem of global warming and leaving the next generation with a healthier planet.
