AGOURA HILLS, CA — Agoura Hills could potentially go down in history as the hometown of the nation’s first “Second Gentleman:” Doug Emhoff, the Agoura High alumnus and entertainment lawyer who is married to Senator and vice presidential hopeful Kamala Harris.

The 1982 Agoura High yearbook said that Emhoff was a tennis player, backpacker, skier, and wrote for the school newspaper. Admittedly, Emhoff didn’t spend much time in Agoura – he only moved there from New Jersey in the fall of his junior year.

Still, some Agourans are happy to claim him as their own.

"Anything that shines a national spotlight on our area is always a good thing," Agoura High Principal Dr. Stephanie McClay told the Ventura County Star. "We’re always proud of our alumni who rise to prominence. He rose to prominence before his wife was nominated."

After graduating from Agoura, Emhoff went to CSU Northridge, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. He then graduated from the USC Gould School of Law in 1990.

Emhoff became a successful entertainment litigator, and his clients have included Walmart, Merck, and Taco Bell. He has worked at the DLA Piper law firm since 2017, though he took a leave of absence once it was announced that Harris would be Joe Biden’s running mate.

Since then, Emhoff has been an enthusiastic backer of his wife, whom he met on a blind date in 2010. It was his second marriage, and Harris’s first. He has joined his wife at campaign events, and tweeted “Let’s Do This” after Harris addressed the Democratic National Convention last week.
